DescriptionMen that fall is a responsive video art piece on the subject of free falling masculinity. The app features full motion video portraits of men standing, men looking back at you and men falling. Men That Fall has been shown all over the world as a physical video installation.
Hold the man in front of you, stare at him and make a whipping movement with the device. The man will look up - he knows what is coming. Do it again and the man will fall.
The app Men That Fall by the artist duo Performing Pictures was originally inspired by Susan Faludi’s Stiffed: The Betrayal of the American Man. This work comments on the free fall of men as traditional values shift.
The release of the app celebrates Performancexhibition at Magasin 3, Spring 2011 for which curator Richard Julin has invited a number of artists to produce work that lands somewhere between performance and exhibition.
"Men That fall" by Performing Pictures and "Call and response" by Erik Aalto are two art apps curated & produced by Magasin 3. The apps are developed by Performing Pictures.
